You'd think that by 2006 that it would be OK to have the Fcc: of messages set to either (a) the folder of the message you reply to, or (b) the current mail folder, if a new message but nooo, not in mutt. Impossible. Using shell-fu to emit 'set record' hooks for all the mailboxes is gay, since it doesnt work for IMAP. The Genius of it, actually the simple Brilliance and Sheer Glory, is that is implementing the \0, \1 ... regex match substitutions that *every* reasonable scripting language has would fix it. Blah. I think this feature was available only as a patch prior to 1.5.10, and since you haven't posted to any mutt mailing lists to ask about this devilish problem, you probably don't know about the patch.) > but nooo, not in mutt. I expect it makes for good conversation over coffee and biscuits. > The Genius of it, actually the simple Brilliance and Sheer Glory, is th= at > is implementing the \0, \1 ... regex match substitutions that *every* > reasonable scripting language has would fix it. But mutt isn't a scripting language, nor has it one.... And how many mailers have regex matching at all, let alone with subexpression substitution? Let's keep our apples with apples. Now post what's *really* bugging you! Cause, you know, this wouldn't be that bad even if it were an actual problem. ... It's a funny thing about posting to a software hate list: you sometimes ring up people who are considerably involved in the things you hate. But that's ok, I've got no room to complain. I still hate CPAN.pm, for instance. And what use is a hate list if you have to mind everyone's feelings? Hi, Jarkko! --=20 -D. dgc@xxxxxxxx.xxx NSIT University of Chicago

[snip] OMG. How *utterly* embarrassing!. I really am truely quite abashed. BTW, it worked without upgrading. There I was, combing the mutt manual for an hour to find out how to this, only I was reading the manual for wrong f'ing version. :o Thank you for pointing out the error of my ways. For example, I am deeply into extreme OO Perl, Mason and the like. However, I messed up when asked to put PDF bookmarks into a PDF using PDF::API2. Now, Acrobat Reader calls these things Bookmarks. They show up in the Bookmark tab. Everyone calls them Bookmarks. But blow me down, if they're not 'really' called 'Outlines'. Why would you think they're called outlines unless you're a PDF geek/guru? Hates PDF 'outlines' ... The trouble is, even if you are a mega-hyper-geek and a guru in your field, there are things you need to just *work* without having to become a guru in that thing too. Now, I am a pretty experienced Unix programmer, but this is why I gave up on Linux when Max OS X came out. (Well not quite -- I waited until 10.2). I'm only a minor cast member in the mutt roadshow, but we're happy for real problems to be pointed out, so we can hardly discourage people from reporting things that seem to be problems. Honestly, the way the manuals are presented on the web page has been a source of problems more than once... so that's perhaps worthy of its own hate. hates-documentation?

I have never had any problems setting hooks to be triggered by IMAP folders, nor setting the=20 record parameter from them. http://wiki.mutt.org/?MuttGuide/UseIMAP --=20 Bruce I am now a little wary of bananas.
